AW Reading Group – The Unseen By Nanni Balestrini

This Afterwork Reading Group of Nanni Balestrini’s “The Unseen” is open to ALL. Tuesday January 17, 2017 6:30-9:30 pm at Nya Carnegiebryggeriet in Stockholm, Sweden, https://www.nyacarnegiebryggeriet.se.

Balestrini’s avant garde fictional novel based on historical events, recounts the story of a single young working class Italian, whose swept up in the social movement Autonomia in the mid-1970’s. Its “politics of refusal” united a Multitude! Factory workers, university students and professors, the unemployed masses, as well as advocates of the feminist movement, joined collectively to struggle against Post-Fordist capitalism and neo-liberalism.

This novel can open a powerful discussion about tactics of resistance, protest, demonstration and occupation today, and political theory as it relates to the times we live in. How can art become activist? How do we bridge polarized communities?

This novel is great preparation to more deeply understand the artwork and performance, “The Trial”, by Rosella Biscotti, which will be presented at Tensta Konsthall on January 29 from 13:00-17:00. The four hour performance is based on the original court-room recordings from the 1983-84 trial of members of Autonomia Operaia (among them Antonio Negri and Paolo Virno), who were arrested across Italy on charges of terrorism.

The project is a joint collaboration between Tensta Konsthall, CuratorLab and Konstfack Research Week
